AVOID TOUCHING
Scratching or picking your newly pierced site to reduce risk of causing problems to the piercing. In particular, avoid using fingernails to handle jewellery, as the underside of nails are more likely
to introduce bacteria to the pierced site.
If your work involves dirty/dusty environments always insure that your piercing is covered, dry and NOT exposed.
FOLLOW YOUR AFTERCARE
After every piercing is carried out you will be given a full verbal aftercare as well as an A4 written aftercare if for any reason you have any further questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact the studio or book in for a check up.
We want to make sure that your heeling well and that you’re happy with your piercing.
To insure this is the case we also recommend that you come back to the studio for regular check ups!
Your first check up will be set up for 3 weeks over healing, you can just pop us a message and we can get that booked in for you.
Check up's are included and are free of charge*
*Unless a change in jewellery is required or a glove charge is required.
AVOID using any kind of cotton wool products especially cotton wool buds (cue tips) as they are bleached and fibrous. You can purchase sterile cotton buds which are safer to use, however due to the pressure applied we do not suggest using these and just sticking with sterile gauze for applying and drying the area in which the saline has been applied.
The cotton fibres can also attach themselves to the hard lymph that is attached to piercing causing swelling,
Why Saline? Firstly...it's so easy! We advise when cleaning your piercing to use a 0.9 saline solution - We stock Neil Meds piercing aftercare at our studio which has been been specifically designed with brand new piercings in mind.
Once your piercing appointment is complete it is essential that you take care of the area and treat it as the piercer has advised.
Every piercing heals uniquely. Patience and care are really important for happy healthy healing, paired with correct aftercare and check up's to insure the optimum healing.
Cleaning your Piercing-
Using your saline-
With freshly washed hands or gloves apply to the area twice a day (normally morning and night).
Apply the saline directly to the piercing or to sterile gauze to remove any bacteria, product and/or crusting that has formed around the piercing area.
Do not use ANY skin preparation products such as surgical spirits, alcoholic sprays, Savlon creams/spray, Dettol, TCP, Hydrogen Peroxide, paracetamol or salt pastes etc. Only use cleaning products recommended by the studio. There is generally no need to use any other skin antiseptic products and you should not share a cleaning product (inc Salt water) with other person.
Your piercing can and in most cases will SWELL once the piercing has been competed, this is normal and the piercer will have already accommodated this by placing a much larger piece of jewellery into the area. Tongues can swell to the degree of the whole bar, however to relieve this rinsing your mouth with ice cold salt water will help.
If your jewellery is feeling TIGHT in the area then you need to seek the advice of your piercer straight away! In most cases it could be an indication that the area has become more swollen and needs to be checked.
ALWAYS wash your hands before handling your piercing i.e.- cleaning the area
